Hendrix becomes sixth player from Power Five program to transfer to BG under Babers
BOWLING GREEN, Ohio—Bowling Green State University head football coach Dino Babers announced today the addition of Dorian Hendrix to the program. Hendrix comes to the Falcons from the University of Kentucky where he redshirted during the 2014 season. He will sit out the 2015 season due to NCAA Transfer policy.
"We are excited to add a player like Dorian to our program," Babers said. "He comes from a great high school program in Huber Heights Wayne and will be a great addition to our linebacker unit and also our defense. We look forward to seeing the impact that Dorian will make on both our University and our football program in the future."
Originally the first commitment of Kentucky's 2014 signing class, Hendrix was ranked No. 25 in the nation at inside linebacker in his class according to Rivals. A four-year letterman and three-year starter at Wayne High School, Hendrix helped his team to an 11-2 record and a berth in the state quarterfinals as a senior.
Out of high school, Hendrix held offers from eight schools, including Bowling Green, Kentucky, Illinois, Indiana, Kent State, Ohio, Buffalo and Toledo according to ESPN.com. A 2013 graduate, Hendrix enrolled early at Kentucky after an interscholastic playing career which saw him earn All-Southwest Ohio linebacker honors twice. As a senior, the 6-foot-0, 232-pound linebacker made 126 tackles, had three sacks and forced two fumbles. He also had a standout junior season, totaling 125 tackles on his way to earning first-team All-Greater Western Ohio Conference honors in each of his final two seasons.
Hendrix was rated as the No. 15 player at the Best of the Midwest combine, and was coached by Jay Minton at Wayne – the same high school coach as former Wayne standout and current Falcons assistant coach Mike Mickens.
The son of Devonna Hendrix and Darryl Brooks, Hendrix wasn't just a standout on the gridiron. He also competed in both basketball and track & field in high school, running the 4x100- and 4x200-meter relays and earning all-conference honors in the shot put. Hendrix didn't just excel as an athlete, as he was also involved in the classroom as an honor-roll student. He served as the class President during his junior year and was a member of the student council. He received the Rotary Club Scholastic Achievement Award at Wayne and plans to major in political science at BGSU.
Hendrix is the sixth player from a Power Five program to transfer to the Falcons under Babers. He joins Malik Brown (Tennessee), Robbie Rhodes (Baylor), Donovan Wilson (Georgia Tech) and Eilar Hardy (graduate transfer, Notre Dame) as players on the current roster to transfer to Bowling Green since last August.
