FAST FALCON FACTS
• The Falcons are off to a 2-0 start for the second time in as many years and the third time in the last five seasons. Last year's team began the year at 3-0 for the first time since 1999. No BG team has won the first four matches of the season since 1995.
• The first NSCAA rankings were released on Tuesday (Sept. 1). BGSU was ranked fourth in the Great Lakes Region, trailing three teams (Creighton, Xavier and Providence) who are ranked in the top 10 in the nation. And, in that national poll, the Falcons received 12 votes.
Â
• Junior Pat Flynn, one of the top scorers in the country last season, has picked up right where he left off. Flynn was involved in the scoring of five of BGSU's seven goals in the two wins, recording a goal and an assist in Friday's (Aug. 28) 3-1 win over SIUE. On Sunday (Aug. 30), he had a hat trick in a 4-1 victory over Western Illinois.
• As a result of his four-goal, nine-point weekend, Flynn was named the Mid-American Conference's Player of the Week. As of Tuesday evening (Sept. 1), he also had been named to the College Soccer News National Team of the Week and the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week. And, Flynn was one of 10 players listed as finalists for the HERO Sports Stud of the Week.
• Joe Sullivan, like Flynn a junior from Naperville, Ill., scored in both weekend wins. Sullivan had a goal vs. SIUE, then recorded a goal and two assists vs. Western Illinois.
• Redshirt freshman Bismark Agyeman had two assists in his collegiate debut on Friday night, then had two more helpers on Sunday. Agyeman leads the team in assists and ranks third in total points behind Flynn (nine) and Sullivan (six).
• In Friday's win over SIUE, all three of the Falcons' goals came in a span of 4:13. The latter two goals came just 17 seconds apart, which is believed to be the school record for fastest two goals. Senior Ryan James scored BG's first goal of the night midway through the first half. Flynn scored the Falcons' second goal, then almost immediately came up with a steal, poked the ball past the charging SIUE goalkeeper and fired a shot. That shot was blocked by a defender on the line, but Sullivan was there to smash the rebound into the net.
• Sure, the 2015 season is less than a week old. But, the Falcons are ranked among the national leaders in several categories. In the first NCAA statistical rankings of the season, BGSU leads the entire nation in assists per game (5.00), and BG is tied for first in total assists (10) and winning percentage (1.000). The Falcons are second in the country in total goals (7), tied for second in total points (24) and deadlocked for third in points per game (12.00).
• Individually, Agyeman is tied for first in the nation in both assists (4) and assists per game (2.00). Flynn is second in the country in total points (9), tied for second in total goals (4) and deadlocked for third in goals per game (2.00). Additionally, he is fourth nationally in points per game (4.50). Sullivan is tied for fourth in the country in assists, and is also ranked among the nation's top-10 in total goals and total points.
• Redshirt junior goalkeeper Ryan Heuton played all 180 minutes last weekend, picking up both wins with a goals-against average of 1.00. Heuton has allowed only six goals in his BGSU career, spanning nearly 935 minutes, for an overall GAA of just 0.58 at BG.
SO YOU'RE SAYING IT HELPS TO SCORE GOALS
• The Falcons have scored three or more goals in each of the first two games this season. Last year, BGSU scored three or more goals a total of four times, going a perfect 4-0-0.
• The Falcons were 9-1-0 when scoring two or more goals last season, with the only loss coming in overtime (3-2 at Duquesne). In the Eric Nichols Era, BGSU is now 32-4-4 when scoring at least two goals in a game.
11 FACTS ABOUT NUMBER 11 (A FEW NOTES ABOUT PAT FLYNN)
• Junior Pat Flynn scored 14 goals and 32 points last season, and tied for second nationally among 2015 returnees in total goals, goals per game (0.67) and total points. And, it appears Flynn has picked up right where he left off.
• Flynn scored nine points, including four goals, as BGSU won a pair of games to open the season last weekend. He had a goal and an assist (17 seconds apart) against SIUE, and scored three goals vs. Western Illinois.
• For Flynn, the hat trick was the second of his collegiate career, and it was his fourth multiple-goal game.
• Flynn is in his second season at BGSU. He has scored a goal in the season opener in each of those two years, with a goal vs. IUPUI last year and a three-point game against SIUE this fall.
• In the second game of the season, Flynn is AVERAGING four goals and 8.50 points per game as a Falcon. He had five goals and 11 points vs. Findlay last year, tying the school single-match records for goals and points, and he had a hat trick this fall vs. Western Illinois.
• For his efforts over the weekend, Flynn was named the MAC Player of the Week. He earned that honor for the third time in his BGSU career.
• Flynn has earned a veritable plethora of honors this week. He was named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week on Monday, and was chosen to the TopDrawerSoccer Team of the Week the following day. And, Flynn was one of 10 players listed as finalists for the HERO Sports Stud of the Week.
• In early August, Flynn was marked as a potential candidate for college soccer's most prestigious award, the Hermann Trophy. He was one of just 30 players named to the award's Watch List.
• Flynn's 2014 goal and point totals were the highest by a Falcon since the 1996 season.
• He led the MAC in total goals and game-winning goals (6) a year ago, and ranked second in the league in total points, goals per game (0.67) and points per game (1.52). Flynn finished the season ranked among the national leaders in all five of those categories, as he was eighth or better on each list.
• Following Sunday's WIU game, Flynn has totals of 18 goals and  41 points in just 23 games at BGSU, an average of 0.78 goals and 1.78 points per match as a Falcon.
NICHOLS SIGNS CONTRACT EXTENSION
In early August, BGSU Director of Athletics D. Christopher Kingston announced that men's soccer coach Eric Nichols has signed a multi-year contract extension. Nichols' contract now runs through Dec. 31, 2019.
"The men's soccer program is achieving at a very high level, on and off the field, and we are so pleased about this extension for Eric," said Kingston. "His leadership is exactly what we look for in Falcon Head Coaches and we look forward to continued success in the classroom and on the pitch."
FLYNN NAMED TO HERMANN TROPHY WATCH LIST
In early August, BGSU standout Pat Flynn was marked as a potential coantender for the 2015 Missouri Athletic Club's (MAC) Hermann Trophy. Flynn, a junior, was one of just 30 players named to the award's Watch List.
The MAC Hermann Trophy is the most prestigious individual award in NCAA soccer, presented annually to one male and one female athlete. The winners will be announced Friday, Jan. 8, 2016, at the trophy presentation banquet at the Missouri Athletic Club in St. Louis.
"This is a big endorsement of Pat as a player," said BGSU head coach Eric Nichols. "To be named with the best players is the country is a real honor for Pat, for our program and for our University."
Â
Near the end of the collegiate regular season, NCAA Division I coaches will vote on their top choices and the lists will be narrowed down to the top 15 players. Then, three finalists will be chosen, before the winner is announced in January.
SCOUTING DREXEL
Drexel will enter Thursday's match with an overall record of 0-2-0. The Dragons dropped a 2-0 decision at Rhode Island to open the season, then fell by a 4-3 count at Villanova on Tuesday (Sept. 1). Francisco Palma, Colin McGlynn and Jameson Detweiler all scored vs. VU, but the Wildcats scored twice in the game's last 10 minutes to capture the win. Tyler Afflerbach has played both matches in goal, and has six saves and a goals-against average of 3.00. Last season, the Dragons of head coach Doug Hess finished with an overall record of 5-10-3 and a Colonial Athletic Association mark of 1-6-1. Hess welcomed back 13 letterwinners, including four starters, from that club. Drexel was picked to finish in a seventh-place tie in the 2015 CAA preseason poll.
A LOOK AT CSU
Cleveland State is 0-1-0 on the young season, heading into a Wednesday night (Sept. 2) match at Dayton. The Vikings dropped a 4-1 decision to visiting Robert Morris on Sunday. THE SERIES
BGSU has never met Drexel in men's soccer.
The Falcons trail Cleveland State, 15-14-1, in the all-time series between the teams, and the visiting team has won each of the last four meetings, with the last two matchups requiring overtime. A year ago, Jacob Roth scored on a free kick in overtime in his hometown to give the Falcons a 1-0 win (Oct. 7, 2014). Two seasons ago, the Vikings scored in the second OT for a 1-0 victory at Cochrane Stadium (Oct. 16, 2013). The Falcons owned an eight-match series unbeaten streak before the Vikes captured the teams' 2011 meeting. BG won in Cleveland in 2012, by another 1-0 score. BGSU played CSU every year for over two decades, from 1973-94. Since '94, however, the teams have met just eight times. The Falcons are 8-7-0 at home and 6-8-1 on the road vs. the Vikings through the years.

AUDEN, GENRICH AND JAMES TO CAPTAIN FALCONS

"The three guys who have been chosen as captains are exceptional young men who lead by example, but more importantly they follow it up and hold their teammates responsible for the things that our team values. These three are overtly committed to high standards and doing whatever they can to help their teammates to operate with those same standards."

Following this weekend's two matches, the Falcons hit the road for the first time in the 2015 regular season. BGSU will head to Huntington, W.Va., for the Marshall Invitational.
