BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The #22 ranked Bowling Green State University gymnastics team continued its hot start with a 194.825-192.875 victory over Utah State University on Saturday afternoon (Jan. 13). The Falcons celebrated their 2018 home debut at Anderson Arena with the team's first-ever victory over the Aggies. Sophomore sensation Jovannah East earned her 14th career victory by sharing the vault title; she finished the meet by placing second in the floor exercise. Four other Falcon gymnasts also secured top-three finishes during the meet.
BGSU took the lead after the first rotation and never looked back. The vault lineup totaled a 48.750 to improve upon their performance last week at Michigan State, while Utah State was forced to count two falls on the bars, which led to a 46.950 for the Aggies in that event. When Bowling Green moved to the bars, Leslie Delgado and Alexandra Fochler set personal records and led the team to a season-best 48.700. The Falcons also won the floor exercise event by receiving a 48.850, compared to the Aggeis' 48.500.
HEAD COACH KERRIE TURNER SAYS...
"I am so proud of the team for the effort today resulting in a great win. The team really took another step forward and continues to build confidence. What a great crowd and an amazing celebration of diversity and inclusion."
NOTE OF THE NIGHT...
BGSU Gymnastics is off to arguably its best start in program history. The team's 194.825 against Utah State is the school record for the second meet of a season. The 2001 team matched that mark in their season-opening meet. In fact, when expanded to the first three meets of a season, only the 2004 team posted a more prolific effort. That squad earned a 195.125 in their third meet. BGSU's two-meet average of 194.413 is the best in team history, and they need only a 191.900 next Friday to set a new three-meet record. With a 2-0 record, the Falcons have a perfect record after two meets for the first time since 2002 and have won their first two dual meets in a season for the first time since 2014.

Bowling Green competes against a Mid-American Conference foe for the first time in 2018 next weekend. The Falcons will host defending 2017 MAC champion Eastern Michigan at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 19 at Anderson Arena. BGSUÂ will celebrate Military Appreciationi Day at the meet, and there will be an American Girl Doll giveaway. At the MAC Championships last March, the Eagles captured the league title over second-place BGSU by just one-tenth of a point. EMU opened the 2018 by scoring 192.900 in a loss at Penn State. The Eagles competed at home for the first time in 2018 this weekend in their MAC opener against Central Michigan. Eastern Michigan dropped to 0-2 with a 194.525-194.125 loss to the Chippewas.
