QUARTERLY REPORT
The 2017-18 season marks the third year in which NCAA women's basketball has utilized a four-quarter format. And, 2017-18 also marks junior Carly Santoro's third season in a BGSU uniform. So, is it any surprise that Santoro's name dominates the BG list for most points in a quarter by an individual? No. No it is not.
Santoro scored 15 of her team-leading 19 points in the fourth quarter on Saturday (Jan. 13), helping the Falcons overcome a 12-point deficit en route to a 66-64 win at Akron. It marked the second time this season, and the third time overall, that she has scored at least 15 points in a period.
Santoro (#CanScoreO) had set a BGSU record for points in a quarter by an individual in this season's opener, scoring 17 second-quarter points vs. Eastern Kentucky. Prior to the EKU game, Santoro broke her own record of 15 points in a period, amassed against Central Michigan last season (Jan. 14, 2017).
In that CMU game, Santoro's 15-point outburst came in the fourth quarter. That broke the On that date, Santoro broke the 'old' record of 14 points, which had been set by classmate Sydney Lambert ... in the first quarter of that same CMU contest.Â
MOST POINTS IN A QUARTER, INDIVIDUAL
17 -- Carly Santoro vs. Eastern Kentucky (Nov. 10, 2017 – second quarter)
15 -- Carly Santoro vs. Central Michigan (Jan. 14, 2017 – fourth quarter)
15 -- Carly Santoro at Akron (Jan. 13, 2018 – fourth quarter)
14 -- Sydney Lambert vs. Central Michigan (Jan. 14, 2017 – first quarter)
14 -- Carly Santoro at Kent State (Jan. 28, 2017 – fourth quarter)

"WELL THEN..."
Last year's edition of the Falcons won a total of eight games. To quote Jon Lovitz in the movie A League of Their Own, "Well then, this would be more, wouldn't it?"
Saturday's win at Akron was the ninth of the season for the Orange and Brown, topping the total for all of last year. In fact, BG has now surpassed both the home and road win totals for the entire 2016-17 campaign.
The Falcons have a 4-3 record at the Stroh Center this season to date. The fourth home win came on Dec. 18, topping last year's home victory total.
Last year's club won a total of five games away from the Stroh, including three true road contests. This year, BG has four road wins and five total victories away from home. BG is 5-4 in all games played away from the Stroh Center this season.

FALCONS HEAD EAST
BGSU's game at Akron Saturday marked the Falcons' first intradivisional contest of the season. BG opened the MAC schedule with four consecutive games against West Division opponents.
As of last Friday (Jan. 12), BGSU and Kent State were the only two MAC programs that had yet to play a game against a team from their own division. The Falcons, obviously, are now 1-0 against the East. KSU's first intradivisional contest comes on Wednesday (Jan. 17), when the Golden Flashes meet BG at the Stroh Center.
HALE-STORM

Senior Haley Puk's three-pointer with just 19.9 seconds left gave the Falcons a 65-64 lead at Akron on Saturday, and BGSU went on to a 66-64 win over the Zips.
It marked the second time in the last four games that Puk hit a clutch three-pointer to tie the game or give the Falcons the lead with under 30 seconds to go. On Jan. 3, Puk's long triple tied the score against Eastern Michigan with just 27.5 seconds remaining, before the Eagles got a tip-in just before the buzzer.
LAST TIME OUT: PUK'S LATE TRIPLE CAPS FURIOUS FALCON COMEBACK
Senior Haley Puk's clutch three-pointer with 19.9 seconds to go capped a furious fourth-quarter rally and lifted the Falcons to a 66-64 win at Akron Saturday afternoon (Jan. 13).
The Falcons (9-7, 1-4 MAC) built a double-digit lead in the first half, but the Zips rallied back, taking the lead with a 10-0 run to begin the third period. Akron led by three points after 30 minutes, then extended that advantage to 12 points with just 6:53 remaining in the fourth quarter.
UA still led by seven points with under three minutes to go, as Haliegh Reinoehl's three-pointer made it a 63-56 game with 2:23 on the clock, before the Falcons rallied back for the road win.
Junior Carly Santoro led the Falcons with 19 points, scoring 15 in the fourth quarter alone, while classmate Sydney Lambert had 14 and Puk 13.
Akron's Alyssa Clay led all players with 22 points, while Shaunay Edmonds had 15. Clay had 18 points in the first half, hitting six three-pointers before the break, but made just one field goal in each of the final two quarters.

THEÂ FALCONS: A QUICK OVERVIEW
BGSU is 9-7 on the season, and the Falcons are 1-4 in Mid-American Conference play. BG is 4-3 at the Stroh Center, 4-4 in true road games and 1-0 in neutral-site contests this season to date.
The Falcons opened the season with seven games in a 19-day span. BGSU went 6-1 during that time, then began December by downing Xavier before a large School Day crowd at the Stroh. But, BG then dropped six of the last seven games.
After an 82-73 win over Ferris State, BG suffered a loss at Cincinnati to end the non-conference slate, then opened league play with four losses vs. West Division foes. BGSU lost at Western Michigan, at home to Eastern Michigan and Ball State, and on the road vs. Central Michigan. The Brown and Orange snapped the five-game losing streak with Saturday's 66-64 win at Akron.
Head coach Jennifer Roos and her staff – which is comprised of assistant coaches Jacey Brooks, Nick Moore and Jessie Ivey, director of operations Monique Rosati and video coordinator Amanda Cutcher – welcomed back a total of nine returning players, including three starters, from a year ago. The list of returnees includes two seniors, three juniors and four second-year Falcons.
Rachel Myers and Haley Puk make up the senior class, while Maddie Cole, Sydney Lambert and Carly Santoro each are in their junior year. Sophomores Andrea Cecil, Caterrion Thompson and Jane Uecker also return, as does Clare Glowniak, who is a redshirt freshman in terms of eligibility after missing the bulk of last season due to injury.
The nine returnees are joined by five freshmen, including Terri Battle, Madisen Parker, Angela Perry, Sierra Thompson and Kennedy Williams. Perry made her collegiate debut in the MAC opener at WMU, after missing the entire non-league portion of the schedule due to injury.
Cecil, Lambert, Puk and Santoro each have started all 16 games this season. Uecker started the first 13 contests of the year, while Glowniak has been in the starting five in each of the last three games.
Through 16 games, two Falcons are scoring in double digits, with two others just shy of that mark. Santoro leads the way with 14.4 ppg, and is averaging a double-double, with a team-leading 10.2 rpg. Cecil has 10.6 ppg, while Puk and Lambert are averaging 9.5 and 9.1 ppg, respectively. Caterrion Thompson (5.4 ppg) and Uecker (5.2) are ranked fifth and sixth, respectively, on the team in scoring.
Lambert leads the team in assists, with 2.5 per game, while Santoro has 2.1 helpers per contest. Santoro (1.9) and Lambert (1.8) are ranked 1-2 on the team in steals per game. Lambert has knocked down 30 three-point field goals this year, while Puk has hit 28.
Through five MAC games, Santoro has BG-best averages of 13.8 ppg and 9.8 rpg, while Caterrion Thompson has 9.6 ppg and Puk 8.0 ppg. Thompson is shooting 52.4 percent from three-point range in league contests, having gone 11-of-21 from the arc. Cecil has 6.4 ppg in MAC play, while Glowniak and Lambert have 5.4 ppg each.
THREE-ON THOMPSON
Sophomore Caterrion Thompson enters the KSU game shooting 47.4% from three-point range on the year, having gone 18-of-38 beyond the arc. She leads the MAC in long-range accuracy.
FALCONS VS. THE MAC
The Falcons continue to own the best record in MAC history. Entering Wednesday's KSU game, BGSU has an all-time record of 403-199 (.669) in MAC regular-season contests, for the most wins and highest winning percentage of all league institutions.
And, BG leads the series with all 11 MAC foes, making the Falcons the only team in the league with a winning series record against every other school. BG also has the most overall victories and highest overall winning pct. of any league institution.
SCOUTING KSU
Kent State is 9-8 on the season, and the Golden Flashes are 2-3 in MAC play to date. KSU posted two seven-point victories over Eastern Michigan in the first four conference games, and the Flashes' most recent outing was a narrow 88-84 setback at Central Michigan on Wednesday (Jan. 13). KSU is 2-2 at home, 5-3 on the road and 2-3 in neutral-site matchups. Jordan Korinek leads the team, and the MAC, in scoring, with 20.4 points per game. She is averaging 24.2 ppg in MAC games, and is second in the nation in free throws made (109). Megan Carter, who was ineligible in the fall semester, has played in all five MAC games and has 15.0 ppg. Last year, KSU went 19-13 overall and 13-5 in the MAC. Head coach Todd Starkey welcomed back a total of eight letterwinners, including four starters, from that club.
THE SERIES
The Falcons lead Kent State, 54-32, in the all-time series between the teams, but KSU won last year's two meetings. A jumper by Megan Carter with just 2.2 seconds left gave the Flashes an 80-78 win in Kent (Jan. 28, 2017), and KSU then picked up a 70-60 win at the Stroh Center (Feb. 22, 2017). KSU has won four of the last six matchups, after BG had won eight-straight meetings and 20 of the previous 21 tilts. BGSU is 26-12 in home games (including 5-2 in the Stroh), 21-18 on the road and 7-2 at neutral sites vs. Kent/Kent State over the years.
UP NEXT
The KSU kerfuffle begins a stretch which sees the Falcons play at home three times in a four-game span. BG will host Ohio on Saturday (Jan. 20) in a 1:00 p.m. start. That game is the first half of a Falcon hoops doubleheader at the Stroh. Then, a trip to Muncie for a midweek matchup with Ball State (Jan. 24) is followed by a home date vs. Toledo (Jan. 27).
