Women's Soccer Announces 2018 Signing Class

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio -- The Bowling Green State University women's soccer program and head coach Matt Fannon have announced the signings of 11 student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. The players who will be arriving on campus this fall and joining the BGSU family are Alyssa Abernot (Grimsby, Ontario, Canada), Sarah Allen (Toronto, Ontario, Canada), Zoe Hudson (Rochester Hills, Mich.), Sydney Hyatt (Troy, Mich.), Ruby Linton (London, England), Alexis Miller (Littleton, Colo.), Emilie Reese (Waterville, Ohio), Mackenzie Reuber (Macomb, Mich.), Lynsey Spotts (Temperance, Mich.), Ashley Svec (Avon, Ohio), and Sara Vinca (Trenton, MIch.).

"We are really happy with the class we are bringing in. We have been able to add quality, strength and depth in all areas. Plus every person coming in is going to contribute greatly to our already great team chemistry and academic profile," said Fannon.

The bulk of this year's signees hail from the local area. The team has signed two players from Ohio and five from Michigan. However, the team also welcomes a player from Colorado. In addition, Fannon has introduced more international strength to the team with two players from Canada and another from England. BGSU will now have eight players from outside the United States. This class will join a group of 22 returning student-athletes, 13 of whom averaged at least 20 minutes per game in 2017, as well as sophomore transfer Nikki Cox.

Fannon aggressively pursued help at all positions but focused heavily on midfielder, as the class includes six at that position. The team also signed two forwards, two defenders, and a goalkeeper who will add further competition to an already deep unit.

Biographical information about each of the 11 signees is listed below. The BGSU women's soccer team completed its best season in nearly a decade under the first-year guidance of Fannon. The team went 13-7-1 overall and 6-4-1 in the MAC during the regular season, then advanced to the MAC Championship before falling to Toledo in overtime. Forward Skylar Fleak was named MAC Offensive Player of the Year, and Fannon was named MAC Coach of the Year.

Four-year student-athlete in soccer, basketball, and volleyball … played for head coach Mihail Sinevici with the Falcons … scored 72 goals in three seasons for 2015-17, including career-high 26 in 2017 … team compiled 20-5 record from 2015-17 with seasons of 6-2 (2015), 7-2 (2016) and 7-1 (2017) … team Most Valuable Player in 2015-17 seasons … team captain … Forest Hill's Female Athlete of the Year (2015-17) … also competed for Woodbridge Strikers Soccer Club … 2017 Ontario Indoor champions … OYSL 2017 Finalists … 2017 PDA U17 winners.

Earned a letter in soccer for the Mustangs under head coach Barry Brodsky … also competed for Michigan Hawks on club level … team won U17 ECNL national championship.

Ruby Linton | Midfielder | 5-7 | London, England | Gems World Academy
Attended the GEMS World Academy in Dubai, United Arab Emirates … competed on U16 teams that won first place in the Dubai League in the 2014-15 and 2015-16 seasons … competed on U18 team that won Dubai League in 2016-17 season … also played club soccer for Spanish Soccer Schools … awarded Most Skilled Player by Michel Salgado.

Three-year letter winner for Jaguars under head coach Paul Moline … All-Conference honoree following 2016 and 2017 seasons … scored seven goals and five assists in 2016 … in 2017, tallied four goals and four assists for current career totals of 11 and nine … team went combined 26-7-1 in 2016-17, including 16-3-1 in 2017 … team won state championship in 2017, the first soccer title in school history … competed for Colorado Rush club team, which won 2017 ECNL North American Cup.

Emilie Reese | Midfielder | 5-7 | Waterville, Ohio | Anthony Wayne HS
Earned four letters for the Generals under head coaches Lori Williams and Erik VanDerMeulen … as senior in 2017, scored career-high ten goals and added four assists … team went 15-3-1 and won Northern Lakes League championship and sectional championship … team was also sectional champions and finished second in league in 2014 and 2015 … scored 24 goals and 19 assists in career as team went 47-20-7 … 2017 second team All-League and honorable mention All-District … 2017 team captain … on club level, competed for Greater Toledo Futbol Club and Pacesetter Soccer Club.
