QUOTING COACH WILLIS
"Games like this are tough, when not a lot goes right. But, we have identified a number of things that we need to work on, and we look forward to getting back out on the field for practice. We are excited about the chance to play a midweek game against Fort Wayne before returning to MAC play against Western Michigan next weekend."

BGSU-BALL STATE – HOW IT HAPPENED
- There was a strong wind blowing from right to left field on Saturday, and while several of Ball State's homers may have been wind-aided, Janae Hogg's first-inning shot was not. With two outs, she hit a long drive to left that landed well beyond the fence and the BGSU bullpen.
- Aeshia Miles, who threw a one-hit shutout against the Falcons in Friday's first game, allowed a hit on her first pitch of Sunday's game, when junior Alex Sorgi beat out a perfectly-placed bunt. But, Miles retired the next three Falcons.
- BGSU starter Meredith Miller allowed only a two-out single in the second inning, but the Cardinals increased the lead in the third. Haley Dominique doubled with one out, moved to third on a grounder, and after Hogg was intentionally walked, Maddy Labrador got a fly ball up in the jet stream and over the wall just inside the left-field fair pole.
- BGSU had at least one baserunner in every inning on Saturday. Freshman Sarah Gonzalez was hit by a pitch in the second, while classmate Sammy Dees lined a single up the middle in the third and junior Kali Holcomb was plunked by a Miles offering in the fourth. In each case, however, BG could not get a runner past second base.
- The Cardinals busted the game wide open in the fourth, scoring six times on five hits and a pair of Falcon errors. Three-straight singles began the inning and gave the visitors a run, and the next batter was hit by a pitch to load the bases.
- BG got an out on a force play at home, but another single plated a run. Junior Brooke Parker struck out Hogg, the MAC's home run leader, but Labrador followed by lifting a fly ball to left. The high fly got just enough air to land on the tarp that covers the bullpen, approximately six inches beyond the left-field wall. The 200-feet, 6-inch grand slam gave the Cards a 10-run lead.
- And, the visitors added a pair of unearned runs against freshman Madison French in the fifth to take a 12-0 advantage.
- In the bottom of the fifth, the Falcons loaded the bases with one out. After a liner by freshman Kinzi Sanders was caught by the shortstop, senior Alivia Forshey reached on a pinch-hit single, and Alex Sorgi's single put a pair of runners on base. Sophomore Taylor Blevins reached on an error that loaded the bases, but a hard grounder was fielded by BSU third baseman Stacy Payton, who stepped on the bag and fired to first for the game-ending double play.
BGSU-BALL STATE STATS & LEADERS
- Miles picked up the win, firing a four-hit shutout. She struck out three and did not walk a batter as she improved to 11-4 on the year.
- At the plate, Labrador led the way, going 3-for-4 with the two homers and seven RBI. Kendall Fields also had a multiple-hit game for the visitors, going 2-for-3 at the plate.
- Labrador, Hogg and Cadie O'Donnell scored two runs apiece in Sunday's game.
- For the Falcons, Alex Sorgi had half of BG's hits, going 2-for-3 with a stolen base. Dees and Forshey each went 1-for-1 at the plate.
- Miller, the first of three Falcon pitchers, suffered the loss to drop to 8-6.
- French got the final four outs, allowing two runs (both unearned) and two hits.
UP NEXT
- The Falcons continue a seven-game homestand with a midweek matchup against Fort Wayne. BGSU will meet the Mastodons in a single game on Wednesday (March 28), beginning at 3:30 p.m.
- Then, the Orange and Brown will return to MAC play next weekend, hosting Western Michigan in a 3:00 p.m. single game on Friday (March 30), followed by a 1:00 p.m. Saturday (March 31) doubleheader.
