PERRYSBURG, Ohio – The Bowling Green tennis program (12-7, 4-2 MAC) defeated Eastern Michigan (14-8, 2-4 MAC) on Sunday evening at the Perrysburg Tennis Center by a score of 4-3. After winning the doubles point, the Falcons went on to tally three additional wins in singles play to seal the victory over the Eagles.

Statistical Standouts

The match against Eastern Michigan concluded the home slate for the Falcons, while Bowling Green posted a successful 8-1 record at home in the 2018 campaign.
The Falcons were able to win the doubles point with victories on courts No. 2 and 3. After a strong 4-1 start against the Eagles, the pairing of junior Paula Comella and sophomore Marharita-Sophia Tavpash earned its 13th win on the year, for an improved overall record of 13-5 against their opponents.
To seal the doubles win, the duo of freshman Marta Bettinelli and junior Vanesa Pardo capitalized on an early 3-0 lead for an eventual 6-3 victory and its sixth win together on the season.
Continuing her strong 2018 campaign, Comella is now on a two-match win streak against her opponents by earning 6-2, 6-4 wins at No. 1 singles. The Ciutadella de Menorca, Spain native now holds a team-best record of 15-3 on the year.
After gaining an early 3-0 lead, junior Polina Radeva used the momentum to tally a 6-4 win in her first set. By fighting for a narrow 7-6 victory in the second set, Radeva was able to down her Eagle opponent in straight sets for her 11th win on the year.
Also earning straight set wins was Tavpash, who earned two victories on the day with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 3 singles. A native of Lviv, Ukraine, Tavpash also tallied her 11th singles win of the season and holds a record of 11-6 in her sophomore campaign.

Coach Dalmacio's Take

"We didn't play our best tennis today, but were able to keep our focus on the courts we needed to get the win. It was also a learning lesson for everyone, and that's a positive. We need to be able to face adversities to grow as a team going forward."

Up Next

The Bowling Green tennis program will be back in action next Saturday, April 14 as it takes on Miami (OH) on the road at 1 p.m. The Falcons will then conclude the regular season on April 22 at Western Michigan.
