May 22, 2018 | Baseball
CLEVELAND, Ohio – Three members of the Bowling Green State University baseball team – Randy Righter, Zac Carey and Jake Wilson – were honored with All-Conference recognition. The Mid-American Conference announced the All-League teams on Tuesday (May 22) afternoon.
Righter, a senior first baseman, was named to the All-MAC Second Team, while senior pitcher Zac Carey and sophomore centerfielder Jake Wilson were named to the MAC's All-Defensive Team.
"We are really happy for Randy, Zac and Jake," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "All three young men had great seasons, and it's exciting to see that the rest of the league recognized them as standout players in our conference."
Righter, the only player on the team in 2018 to start and play in all 50 games, had a monster senior season. The West Bloomfield, Michigan native led the Falcons in at-bats (195), runs (28), hits (63), doubles (16), home runs (5), RBI (32), slugging percentage (.492) and putouts (336).
Righter finished his career with a program-high 1,347 putouts. Righter hit 48 doubles as a Falcon, which ranks him tied for fifth in school history. The senior's doubles total in 2018 ranked second in league, while his .592 slugging percentage in MAC play ranked third-best in the conference.
For the second-consecutive year, Carey was tabbed as the lone pitcher on the MAC's All-Defensive Team. The native of London, Ohio posted a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage over 20 chances. Carey had nine putouts and 11 assists. Carey also had a flawless fielding percentage when he was named to the league's All-Defensive Team in 2017.
Wilson was named to the conference's All-Defensive Team for the first time in his career. The sophomore registered a 1.000 fielding percentage across 113 chances. Wilson posted 111 putouts and two assists. Widely known for his elite defensive play, Wilson also had a big offensive season. He ranked fifth in MAC play with a .354 batting average. His 35 hits in conference play ranked seventh-best, and he ranked 11th in MAC play with a .429 on-base percentage.
