KENT, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University baseball team opened its weekend series at Kent State University on Friday (May 4) night with an 11-0 loss. The Golden Flashes scored two runs in the second, and led the rest of the way. The series opener was played at KSU's Schoonover Stadium.
"Obviously, their starter is a heck of a pitcher," said head coach Danny Schmitz. "We had a chance to get to him early. We put our first two runners on base in the second, but we couldn't take advantage. He settled in from there, and we didn't do a good enough job of making it tough on him."
Bowling Green drops to 10-30 on the season with the loss. MAC-leading Kent State moves to 30-13 (14-5 MAC) with the victory.
After opening the scoring with two runs in the second, the Golden Flashes added three in the third, one in the fourth, three in the seventh and two more in the eighth.
The three-game series will resume tomorrow (May 5) at 4 p.m. The series will conclude with a 1 p.m. first pitch on Sunday (May 6).
ADDITIONAL GAME NOTES
• By leading off the sixth inning with a single, sophomore outfielder Jake Wilson pushed his on-base streak to 20-consecutive games.
• Bowling Green's four hits were registered by Jake Wilson, Derek Drewes, Randy Righter and Neil Lambert.
• Neil Lambert also worked a walk, as did Dylan Dohanos.
• Zac Carey gutted out 6.0 innings on the mound. He's now logged 289.1 innings across his career, which ranks third-most in BGSU Baseball history.
