Bowling Green, Ohio--Bowling Green State University women's softball head coach, Shannon Salsburg, announced today that three new players will be joining the Orange and Brown softball squad. Erin Greenwalt from Glen Carbon, Ill., Katie Yoho from Grove City, Ohio and Erika Stratton from Las Vegas, Nev., will be playing for the Falcons in 2011.
Greenwalt is currently attending Edwardsville High School and is pitching for the Midland Magic. In 2007, Greenwalt led her team to a third place finish at the Illinois State Tournament, as well as a second place finish in 2009. She aspires to be an astrophysicist and will come to BGSU wih a 4.1 grade-point average.
"Her attitude and desire to improve really set her apart in the recruiting process," Salsburg said. "We look forward to her continued growth and believe she can be a key component of our pitching staff for years to come."
Yoho will be joining the Falcon softball squad as an infielder. She is currently attending Grove City High School and playing for the Valley Extreme Blue. Yoho boasts a .400 career batting average as well as a .976 slugging percentage. Yoho will bring more than just an outstanding batting average to the Falcon squad as she can also perform in the classroom, racking up a 3.5 GPA.
"She is a special athlete as she can play everywhere," Salsburg said. She has a cannon for an arm and great range. Offensively, Katie is a tough out thanks to her unique blend of power and speed. We are excited to add Katie to our softball family."
Stratton, the last, but certainly not least, addition to the Falcon softball squad comes to BGSU all the way from Las Vegas, Nev. Stratton currently attends Palo Verde High School and plays for the Las Vegas Rage Gold. She will join the Falcnos as a catcher and infielder. Stratton helped her team finish fifth at the ASA Nationals and posted a .400 career hitting average in high school. She will join the Falcons with a 4.2 GPA.
"Erika is a tremenodus addition to our softball family," Salsburg said. "She is a strong young lady who can flat out hit. Erika has the special ability to hit for power and average. She has a fantastic arm and is a fundamentally solid catcher. Erika has played at an elite level and that experience will help her tremendously as she takes the next step to the collegiate game. We are thrilled she has decided to be a Falcon."
