BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - The Bowling Green State University men's golf team will compete in the Mid-American Conference Championships this weekend (Apr. 30-May 2), hosted by Ball State University. The 72-hole event will be played in Indianapolis, Ind., at the Brickyard Crossing.
The Field
Akron, Ball State, Bowling Green, Eastern Michigan, Kent State, Miami, Ohio, Northern Illinois and Toledo.
Schedule of Events
Thursday, Apr. 30 - Tee times begin at 8 a.m. off of holes #1 and #10. Round two will begin at 1 p.m.
Friday, May 1 - Round three will begin at 8 a.m. off of hole #1.
Saturday, May 2 - Round four will begin at 8 a.m. off of hole #1.
A Few Notes on Men's Golf
John Powers and Matt Schneider rank in the top-10 in scoring average in the Mid-American Conference. Powers is sixth with a 73.93 average, while Schneider is eighth with a 74.07 average.
Freshmen Parker Hewit and Drew Preston rank 28th and 38th among the conference field. Hewit is averaging 75.83, while Preston is at 76.22. Hewit and Parker, both candidates for MAC Freshman of the Year honors, rank fifth and sixth among first-year players in the conference.
Last Time Out
The Bowling Green State University men's golf team fired a final round 301 to finish 14th at the Boilermaker Invitational, hosted by Purdue University. The Falcons finished with a 54-hole score of 901 (304-296-301).
The field, which was loaded by teams throughout the Big Ten, was led by Illinois, who shot 855. They were followed by Penn State (856), Iowa (864), Wisconsin (866) and Indiana (874) for the top five team finishers.
Drew Preston was the top Falcon, finishing tied for 43rd overall. The freshman opened with an 80, but had a strong finish, shooting even par the last two rounds (71-73). He had a 54-hole score of 224.
John Powers was just one stroke behind Preston, carding a 225 (73-76-76). The Bowling Green, Ohio, native finished in a tie for 48th.
Junior Matt Schneider finished tied for 59th, firing a 227 (77-75-75), followed by Parker Hewit, 233 (79-77-77, T-80th) and Bryan Mitchell, 233 (75-74-84, T-90th).
