BGSU Faces Field of 17 Teams and 93 Players
The Bowling Green State University men's golf team makes their third and final trip to Kentucky this fall as they complete the fall leg of their 2010-11 season by competing in the F&M Bank APSU Intercollegiate on Monday and Tuesday (Oct. 18 and 19).
The tournament, hosted by Austin Peay State University, takes place in Hopkinsville, Ky. at the par-72, 6,886-yard Links at Novadell course.
The schedule calls for 36 holes to be played on Monday, with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m. (EDT) and continuous play until the 36 holes are complete. On Tuesday, teams will play one round of 18 holes beginning with a 10:00 a.m. (EDT) shotgun start.
The tournament field features 17 teams of five players each along with eight individual players, for a total of 93 players. According to the Golfweek/Sagarin Performance Ranking through play on Oct. 11th, the Falcons are the ranked the best among the 17 teams in the field. Their ranking of 93 outpaces Jacksonville State by 12 spots. The only other teams within 40 spots of the Falcons are Murray State (115) and Oakland (130).
Other teams in the field include Belmont, both Eastern and Western Illinois, Eastern Kentucky, Morehead State, Samford, Tennessee State, Tennessee Tech, Tennessee-Martin and Troy.
The Falcons also feature three of the top 20 individuals in the field, as ranked by Golfweek/Sagarin, with Drew Preston, Parker Hewit and Wes Gates taking those honors.
The last five editions of this annual tournament have featured the current 54-hole format, and low scores have historically been required to win it. No team has won with a total score higher than 859, with Austin Peay holding the record-low team score of 832 in 2008. Also, no player has won the individual title with a score higher than 208, and the tournament record is 199, held by an Austin Peay athlete in 2008.
