Falcons Tied For First at BSU Cardinal Classic After 36 Holes
March 27, 2010 | Men's Golf
The Bowling Green State University men's golf team carded a 36-hole score of 596 to sit in a tie for first after day one at the Ball State Cardinal Classic in Jasper, Ind. The Falcons opened with a 303, but improved by 10 shots in round two, firing a 293, to climb from fifth into its current tie atop the standings.
Senior Matt Schneider, who is on pace to become the school's all-time low scoring average leader, showed why he may just do that, shooting a 142 with back-to-back 71's on Saturday. The Grand Rapids, Minn. native, who has already won one tournament this season, has a chance to add another to his resume on Sunday. He currently leads the 86-player field by one shot.
The Falcons other senior, John Powers, is not far behind after carding a 149. After opening with a rough 79, the Bowling Green, Ohio, native rebounded with a 2-under 70 in round two, the lowest round of the tournament. Powers is currently tied for 15th.
Also competing for the Falcons were Parker Hewit (75-75--150, T-19th), Drew Preston (78-77--155, T-40th) and Wes Gates (87-81--168, 77th).
The third and final round will take place on Sunday morning.
