Schneider Leads Falcons to Second Place Finish at BSU Cardinal Classic

Matt Schneider, a senior on the Bowling Green State University men's golf team, helped lead the Falcons to a second-place at the Ball State Cardinal Classic in Jasper, Ind. Schneider earned medalist honors among the 84-player field, his second tournament win this season.
Evansville won the tournament, followed by BGSU, Eastern Kentucky, Detroit Mercy and DePaul to round out the top five.
As a team the Falcons carded an 891, two strokes behind Evansville. The Falcons entered the final round in a three-way tie for first and had a three shot lead on the Purple Aces, but Evansville shot a 290 in the final round, the lowest 18-hole score of the tournament. The Falcons' 295 on Sunday was the second-lowest round of the day.
As stated before, Schneider won his second tournament of the season, carding a score of 213 (71-71-71). His nearest competitor shot 218, five shots more than the Falcon senior.
While Wes Gates just finished in a tie for 65th, the freshman shot a 72 on Sunday, after firing an 87-81 in the first two rounds.
Also competing for the Orange and Brown were John Powers (79-70-76, T-19th), Parker Hewit (75-75-79, T-34th) and Drew Preston (76-77-78, T-39th).
Up next for BGSU is a trip to Wichita, Kan., on Apr. 5-6 at the Diet Pepsi Shocker Classic.
