The Bowling Green State University men's golf team will travel to Wichita, Kan., for the Diet Pepsi Shocker Classic, hosted by Wichita State on Apr. 5-6.
The Field
Bowling Green, Drake, Kansas, Missouri-Kansas City, Nebraska, Northeastern State, Oklahoma City , Oklahoma Christian, South Dakota State, Texas-Arlington, Texas Wesleyan, Wayland Baptist, Wichita State, William Woods
Tournament Schedule
The tournament will consist of 54 holes with 36 holes being played Monday and the final 18 holes scheduled for Tuesday.
Schneider Named MAC Golfer of the Week
Matt Schneider was named the Mid-American Conference Golfer of the Week on Wed., Apr. 1. Schneider shared the honor with Kent State's Mackenzie Hughes and Eastern Michigan's Cam Burke.
Schneider earned medalist honors at the Cardinal Classic, carding a 213 (71-71-71), lapping the field by five shots. It was the senior's first time in his career he posted three straight sub-par rounds in the same tournament.
The win was Schneider's second this season and third of his career which is now tied for the most in school history with Ken Walters (1972-75). Schneider's other win this season came in the opening tournament of the year after firing a 211 (72-72-67) at the John Piper Intercollegiate.
The Grand Rapids, Minn., native, who earned first-team All-MAC honors last season, ranks eighth in the conference with a 73.30 average and is the only golfer in the MAC to have won two tournaments this year.
About the Falcons
The Falcons will enter this weekend's tournament with a scoring average of 294.57, currently the lowest scoring average in school history. The current BGSU record is held by the 2007-08 squad that averaged 296.00 per round.
According to www.mac-sports.com the Falcons' Drew Preston, Matt Schneider and John Powers all rank in the top-14 in scoring averages. Schneider is eighth with an average of 73.30, followed by Preston (73.83, 11th) and Powers (74.22, 14th).
Parker Hewit is fourth on the team with a scoring average of 75.00, which ranks 25th in the MAC, followed by freshman Wes Gates, who is 32nd with an average of 76.00.
