Final Stats
The Bowling Green State University concluded the 2009-2010 season on Sunday at the 2010 Mid-American Conference Championships, held at the 7,243-foot, par-72 Longaberger Golf Club in Nashport, Ohio.
Rain showers and wind created less-than-ideal playing conditions for the competitors, and the Falcons' scores regressed from the improvements over the previous two rounds as a result.
Bowling Green completed Sunday's 18 holes with a composite score of 314 (+26). This result gave the Falcons an 80-over-par total of 1232 (320-300-298-314) and a ninth-place finish.
BGSU finished ten shots behind Ball State for eighth place and thirteen shots behind Toledo for seventh.
Kent State's two-under-par 1150 won the MAC Championship by 22 shots over Eastern Michigan.
Individually, senior Matt Schneider concluded his Falcon career with a two-over-par 74. His tournament total of 302 (80-73-75-74) was 14-over-par and tied Schneider for 17th place. Schneider has earned a top-20 finish in all four MAC Championships as a Falcon. After the tournament, Schneider was named second-team All-MAC. This is the second consecutive season Schneider has been named All-MAC; in 2008-09, he was named to the first team.
Freshman Wes Gates completed his first attempt at the MAC Championships with a seven-over-par 79. The score gave Gates a total of 308 (80-78-71-79) for the tournament to put him in a tie for 29th place.
Sophomores Drew Preston and Parker Hewit finished within one shot of each other. Hewit's final round 83 put his tournament total at 315 (81-73-78-83). Meanwhile, Preston carded a 78 on Sunday for a final score of 316 (80-84-74-78).
John Powers, like Schneider, a senior, shot an 86 in his final round with the Orange and Brown. Powers ended the MAC Championships with a total of 321 (80-76-79-86).
Overall, Bowling Green's 2009-2010 season was an up-and-down one. The Falcons won the first two tournaments of the season (John Piper, Earl Yestingsmeier) and finished in the top-five of tournament standings on five occasions. BGSU finished in the top half of the tournament field seven times in 12 tournaments.
For the season, the Falcons played 36 rounds and totaled 10,704 shots for a per-round average of 297.33.
The Falcons have four outgoing seniors.
Matt Schneider concludes his senior campaign with a per-round average of 73.72 through 36 rounds of action. His final career per-round average is 74.43 through 132 rounds, a new BGSU school record.
John Powers also played the full 36 rounds in 2009-10 and averaged 75.36 in that span. For his career, Powers leaves BGSU with an average of 75.17 over 123 rounds.
Scott Blackburn played in two tournaments in 2009-10. In his six rounds, Blackburn averaged 78.83, the best average since his freshman year. His senior year action also brought his career average under 80, as Blackburn leaves BGSU after shooting 79.76 over 29 rounds.
