May 25, 2010 | General, Volleyball
Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University volleyball coach Denise Van De Walle and BGSU graduate John Harbal were each inducted into the Fellowship of Christian Athletes Hall of Champions Monday evening in an inaugural ceremony for the Northwest Ohio chapter.
Van De Walle and Harbal were inducted along with Tom Amstutz, Chuck Ealey, and Tom Beutler.
Van De Walle has completed 27 seasons at the helm of the BGSU volleyball program and is the only coach in Mid-American Conference history to win 500 career matches, posting a 500-342 career record. She has 13 20-win seasons and a 30-win campaign in 1992, winning MAC Coach of the Year honors on four occasions. As well, her teams have been honored as an AVCA Academic Team for each of the past nine years, the second-longest streak in the country.
Harbal is President and CEO of Impact Products, a manufacturer and supplier to the janitorial and sanitary supply industry. He is a 1972 graduate of Bowling Green State University, serves on the Board of Trustees, and is a big supporter and fan of BGSU athletics. Harbal was instrumental in re-establishing FCA in Northwest Ohio in the mid-to-late 1990's when Sam Rutigliano, former coach of the Cleveland Browns, asked him to serve as the chair of the newly formed board.
