December 05, 2011 | General, Men's Basketball, Women's Swimming & Diving
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Papa John's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are men's basketball player Scott Thomas and swimmer Alexis Kain.
Male Athlete of the Week
Scott Thomas, a senior from Ashley, Ohio, had 16 points, eight rebounds, two assists, and a steal in BGSU's 60-53 loss to Western Kentucky. Thomas scored 12 of the Falcons' final 14 points as they fought back from an 18-point deficit to tie the game at 53-53 on his fastbreak three-pointer.
Female Athlete of the Week
Alexis Kain, a junior from Cincinnati, Ohio, won the 100 and 200 breaststroke at the Total Performance Swim Camps Invitational. She set a new meet record in the 100 breast with a time of 1:02.43 and then came up just short of another meet record in the 200 breast the next day. Her time of 2:16.87 was less than a second off of another record.
