Anthony Grant Named MAC Player of the Week

BGSU junior wins league weekly honor for first time
Grant, a native of Kingston, Jamaica, had the game-winning goal in each of BGSU's two matches last week, as the Falcons defeated both Michigan and Florida Atlantic on the road by identical 2-0 scores. Grant had a total of five points in the two games, with the two goals and an assist.
On Tuesday (Oct. 23), Grant's goal less than two minutes into the second half broke a scoreless tie at U-M, helping the Falcons to their first road win over a Big Ten Conference team in over 11 years. Then, on Friday night (Oct. 26), he scored what proved to be the winning goal in the 13th minute of the Falcons' MAC match at FAU, assisting on BGSU's other goal in that 2-0 victory.
On the season, Grant has 19 points, tying him for the team lead. He paces the Falcons and is tied for second in the MAC with a total of eight goals, and also has three assists on the year. Five of Grant's goals have been game-winning goals, the highest total by a BG player since the 1997 season. Grant has nine points (four goals, one assist) in the Falcons' six MAC matches.
Grant shares this week's MAC Player-of-the-Week honor with Akron goalkeeper David Meves. Grant's award is the Falcons' third of the season, as both junior goalkeeper Michael Wiest (Aug. 28) and sophomore striker Danny Baraldi (Sept. 11) each have earned league weekly accolades in 2012.
The Falcons of coach Eric Nichols conclude the regular-season schedule with a pair of home matches this week, beginning Tuesday night (Oct. 30). BGSU faces Wright State in a 7:00 p.m. start at Cochrane Field. Then, the Brown and Orange will face MAC affiliate member West Virginia on Saturday night (Nov. 3), with that match also scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m.
