Bowling Green's Ryland Ward was named Mid-American Conference East Division Defensive Player of the Week, following his efforts versus Akron.
The sophomore had five tackles and a forced fumble in the 24-10 win over the Zips. Ward's forced fumble came at the BGSU 5-yardline as Akron was nearing a 14-0 advantage late in the second quarter.
Ward and the entire defense held Akron, an offense that came into the game averaging 38.6 points and 497.4 per contest, to just 10 points and 316 yards. In the second half alone the Zips could manage only 36 yards of total offense and had minus-23 yards rushing in the final 30 minutes of action.
It was the first time in his career that Ward has won the award. Ward is the third Falcon in six weeks to be named Defensive Player of the Week, following Chris Jones winning the award in week two and three.
