Schewee, Wiest Named to MAC All-Tournament Team
November 11, 2012 | Men's Soccer
Wiest, a native of Naperville, Ill. (North H.S.), made a total of six saves as the Falcons fell, 2-0, to the number-one team in the nation, Akron, in MAC Tournament semifinal-round action on Friday night (Nov. 9). His final save of the night was his 100th of the season, the highest total by a BGSU goalkeeper since 2003. Wiest, who played every second of every match this season, had seven shutouts, the most by a Falcon 'keeper since 2001. He had a goals-against average of 1.10 this season, and his GAA was just 0.83 in MAC regular-season matches.
Schewee, a native of Rochester, Mich. (Stoney Creek H.S.), played all 90 minutes in Friday's match, and played in 19 contests this season, starting 16 at an outside back position. He had three points on the year on a goal and an assist, and helped Wiest and the Falcons to that total of seven shutouts. Schewee has played in 55 of BGSU's 56 matches since he arrived on campus, making 52 starts during that time.
BGSU ended the year with an 8-9-3 overall record. The Falcons' win total was the program's highest since the '03 team went 8-9-5. BGSU, picked to finish sixth in the eight-team MAC, tied for fourth with a 3-3-1 league record. Head coach Eric Nichols saw just three players on the 25-man roster complete their eligibility, as Friday's match was the final contest for seniors Sean Hastings, Zach Lemke and Chris McLean.
