Falcons Begin Spring Schedule With Trip To California
March 10, 2012 | Men's Golf
RANCHO SANTA FE, Calif. -- The Bowling Green State University men's golf team begins the stroke-play portion of their spring schedule on Monday and Tuesday (March 12-13) when they play in the 54-hole Triumph at Pauma Valley, which is hosted by the University of San Francisco.
The tournament will be held in Pauma Valley, Calif., at the Pauma Valley Country Club. The course features a par-71, 7,076-yard layout and is located 50 miles northeast of San Diego. Teams will play the first 36 holes beginning at 8:00 a.m. on Monday. The final round begins with a shotgun start on Tuesday morning.
Bowling Green will be one of 11 teams in this year's field. Two-time tournament champion Central Arkansas returns to defend its crown. Other teams competing against the Falcons include Army, Columbia, Yale, Austin Peay, Cal State-Bakersfield, Cal State-San Marcos and tournament host San Francisco.
Two Canadian teams, from the University of British Columbia and University of Manitoba, will also play in the tournament.
Live scoring will be available through Golfstat here.
Six BGSU players and head coach Garry Winger began their trip on Thursday (March 8) and have spent their first few days in California in Rancho Santa Fe at the Morgan Run Club and Resort. Morgan Run is the home course of former BGSU head coach A.J. Bonar, who currently runs the A.J. Bonar Golf Academy.
Bonar ran the Falcons' golf program for two seasons (1982-83 and 1983-84) and guided BGSU to its most recent Mid-American Conference championship in 1983.
