BOWLING GREEN, Ohio. -- The Bowling Green State University softball team posted a 5-1 record last week, including sweeps against Oakland University and Western Michigan. The Falcons only loss came in a split with Northern Illinois on Friday, despite outscoring the Huskies 18-6 in the two-game set. In total, the Orange and Brown scored 34 runs last week, allowing just seven against. A large portion of those 34 runs came in a 15-run effort against Northern Illinois (15-2), marking the most runs the Falcons have scored in a game this season. Bowling Green set two MAC records in the contest, belting four home runs in a single inning, aiding in a six home run total for the Falcons. MAC Pitcher Of The Week Nominee
Jamie Kertes, Bowling Green, Fr., P, Carnegie, Pa. / Bishop Canevin
Freshman Jamie Kertes (Carnegie, Pa. / Bishop Canevin) was undefeated in her five appearances last week for Bowling Green, posting a 2-0 record, while also recording a save. Kertes didn't allow a single run in four of her five appearances, helping Bowling Green reach a 5-1 record, including a sweep over defending MAC Champion Western Michigan. Kertes pitched a complete game shutout against Oakland University in the beginning of the week, striking out a career-high nine batters in the process. Kertes matched that career best against WMU, fanning nine Broncos in the Falcons 4-0 win. Kertes sits at 16-9 overall, while also recording six saves.
- Bowling Green has posted an overall record of 34-17 this season, with a record of 14-4 in MAC play. The Falcons' 14 conference wins match a career best for head coach Shannon Salsburg, while the team's 34 overall wins sets a new career high.
- The Falcons are currently in first place in the MAC East Division, trailing only Ball State (13-3) in the overall MAC standings. Bowling Green is looking for its first MAC East title since 2001, when the team finished 35-19 overall, with a record of 19-5 in MAC play. The last MAC regular season title came back in 1993.
- Junior Hannah Fulk broke the Bowling Green single-season walk record this past weekend, earning 40 so far this season. Fulk broke the previous mark of 37 walks set by Hayley Weimer in 2008. Fulk averages 0.8 walks-per-game, ranking 20th in the country.
- Three different Falcons (Fulk, Yoho and Arney) have hit 10 home runs this season, marking the first time in the history of the program that more than one player has hit double-digit home runs in a season. As a team, Bowling Green has hit 39 home runs this season. The Falcons need just eight more to tie the season record of 47, set back in 2007.
- Freshmen Jamie Kertes (16-9) and Paris Imholz (16-8) continue to make their mark this season, both earning 16 wins on the year. This marks the first time in Bowling Green history that two pitchers have 15 or more wins in the same season.
- Kertes currently ranks second in the nation in walks allowed per game, allowing just 0.66 walks per seven innings. Imholz allows only 1.06 walks per game, ranking 12th nationally.
