D'Agostino, Lemke & Silva will lead BGSU in 2012
Bowling Green State University men's soccer coach Eric Nichols has announced his team's captains for the upcoming season. Joey D'Agostino, Zach Lemke and Brandon Silva will serve as tri-captains of the 2012 Falcons.
The captains were chosen by a vote of team members.
"Joey, Zach and Brandon have been strong leaders for us and I am excited for them to be recognized as captains," said Nichols. "As a team, we are actually quite fortunate to have fantastic leadership, not just from these guys but from all of our upperclassmen.
"They are very driven to succeed next season, but beyond that, they care deeply about serving each other and leaving a positive legacy for our younger players to follow."
D'Agostino, a senior, is a three-year letterwinner, and has played in 52 matches over his first three seasons. A native of Livonia, Mich. (Stevenson H.S.), he has recorded five career points on a pair of goals and an assist. His goals came in a pair of road wins during the 2010 season, against IPFW and Florida Atlantic. The latter win gave the Falcons a berth in the MAC Tournament.
Lemke, a fifth-year senior, is a native of Beavercreek, Ohio (Beavercreek H.S.). After sitting out the 2008 season as a redshirt, he played in 15 matches the following year, and saw action in 16 matches, starting 14, in 2010. Last fall, Lemke started all 18 matches for the Falcons, finishing second on the team in minutes played and scoring a total of seven points. His two goals included the game-winner at Detroit, and he also found the net in a home victory over IPFW. He was named to the Academic All-Ohio Team, and also was named the BGSU Junior Scholar-Athlete of the Year. He has 10 career points over his first three seasons.
Silva, a redshirt junior, will serve as a team tri-captain for the second consecutive season. The Columbus native (Worthington Kilbourne H.S.) has played in 35 of BGSU's 36 matches over his first two matches, missing one game due to injury. After scoring one point in 2010, he had seven points on three goals and an assist last fall. Silva was named to both the Academic All-Ohio and the Academic All-Mid-American Conference Teams last season.
Nichols and the Falcons will open the 2012 season on August 25, hosting Saint Bonaventure at Cochrane Field.
