Gates, Penrod Named Pizza Hut Athletes Of The Week

Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Pizza Hut Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are men's golfer West Gates and volleyball player Paige Penrod.
Male Athlete of the Week
Wes Gates, a senior from Novi, Mich., finished third among the 88-player field at the Marshall Invitational with a 54-hole score of 207, three shots shy of the all-time BGSU low for 54 holes. Gates opened with a modest 73 in round one, but finished with a 69 in round two and a 65 in the third and final round. His 65 was two shots shy of the BGSU school record for a single round. His 69 in round two was tied for eighth-lowest in the field and his 65 in round three was three shots better than anyone else in the tournament.
Female Athlete of the Week
Paige Penrod, a junior from Circleville, Ohio, was named to the Purdue Active Ankle Challenge All-Tournament Team after averaging 4.91 kills per set and 5.41 points per set in guiding Bowling Green to a 2-1 record at the event. Penrod had at least 14 kills in each of the three matches, including a weekend-high 21 in a win over Jacksonville State. On top of that, Penrod averaged 2.55 digs per set, was perfect in 58 serve receive attempts, and had six blocks.
