Ryan Triller, a member of the Bowling Green State University men's golf team, advanced to the semi-finals of the Maryland Amateur Championships, hosted by the Country Club at Woodmore this past weekend. The first-year Falcon would eventually lose (6&5) to Denny McCarthy, who would win the Championship a day later.
Triller entered the match-play event seeded No. 27 of 32 golfers. He would defeat the sixth-seed Jack MacDonald (1 up) in round one and would pull off a second upset in round two with a 1-up win (19 holes) versus Chris Hickman.
In round three, the Street, Mary., native would once again relish the under dog role, defeating the No. 3 seed Jake Leavitt 1-up, before his magical run came to a close in the semi-finals.
Triller has quite a reputation in match play since joining the Falcons last January. In his first event as a Falcon Triller rallied from 1-down with two holes to play in the MAC Match Play Championship match versus Ball State, helping the Falcons secure the victory on the 18th hole. Triller would finish that three day event with a 2-0-1 record.
