August 15, 2013 | Men's Golf
Browns Summit, N.C. – The Bowling Green State University men's golf team was represented well over the past three days, as incoming freshman Brett Rinker finished the IZOD AJGA Championship in second place on Thursday.
The tournament, which was held at the Players Course at the Bryan Park Golf & Conference Center in Browns Summit, N.C., hosted the tournament from Aug. 12-15, as 56 players competed.
Rinker, who shot a total of 202 (14-under) for the tournament, shot a blistering 8-under 64 (32-32) in the first round. The score was second only to Alex Smalley (203 total), who shot a 9-under 63 (34-29) on the first day.
Rinker continued his consistency in the second round, shooting a 1-under 71 (35-36), finding himself tied for third overall. In the round, Rinker had 15 pars, two birdies, and one bogey.
In his final round, Rinker needed one last push on the final nine holes to extend the tournament to a playoff. After shooting an even-par 36 on the front nine, Rinker birdied five of the final nine holes, shooting a 5-under 31 on the back nine.
The strong finished placed him in a playoff, only to fall to William Register in the sudden death.
The Falcons will play in their first tournament on Sept. 9 at the Marshall Invitational in Huntington, WV. You can also check out their schedule on bgsufalcons.com or by CLICKING HERE.
