Falcons Ready To Play Host at John Piper

BOWLING GREEN, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's golf team will play host to the 13th annual John Piper Intercollegiate, beginning on Monday. The 54-hole tournament will span over two days (Sept. 16-17), and will taking place at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green, Ohio. Both days will be shotgun starts.
Ashland, Findlay, Marshall, Northern Kentucky, Ohio Nothern, Otterbein, Ohio Wesleyan, Youngstown State, Valparaiso, Wayne State and Wisconsin-Green Bay will all join the Falcons in a field of 12.
Last year, senior Wes Gates won the tournament by a whopping 12 shots with a 54-hole score of 206, which was his fist collegiate tournament victory. He was the lone golfer to finish under par out of the 63 players in the field.
Overall, the team climbed two spots in the final round to finish fifth with a score of 902 (296-300-306). Cleveland State finished first among the 10-team field with a score of 886, who will not be returning this year.
It was the first time since 2005 that the Orange and Brown finished outside of the top three, as the Falcons had won the previous two tournaments on their home grass (2010 and 2011). Â
In most recent past, BGSU has excelled playing on their home course. Since the 2005-06 season the Falcons have had three first-place finishes, one runner-up finish, two third-place finishes and one fifth-place finish (last year).
Second year head coach Kevin Farrell's roster features two seniors, three juniors, one sophomore and three freshman. Returning to the Falcons roster that played in the 2012 John Piper is Chris Melvin, Joe Cooper and Holden Pahr.
