Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's golf team will compete in five spring events prior to the 2014 Mid-American Conference Championships in early May, which includes co-hosting The Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational at The Old White TPC at the Greenbrier on April 14-15th.
Bowling Green tees-off the 2014 spring slate at the MAC Match Play event hosted by Ball State at the Lake Jovita Golf and Country Club in Dade City, Fla. on Feb. 10-11. Last season, the Falcons rallied back late to defeat the top-seeded Ball State Cardinals to capture the Mid-American Conference Match Play Championship.
The Falcons will then take a few weeks of before returning to the links to take part at the Samford Intercollegiate on March 3-4 at the Hoover Country Club in Birmingham, Ala.
BGSU will then compete at the 2014 Desert Shootout hosted by Kansas State at the Palm Valley Country Club in Goodyear, Ariz. on March 20-22 before co-hosting the first annual Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational with Marshall University.
The Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational will be held on April 14-15 at the Old White TPC at the Greenbrier in White Sulpher Springs, W. Va. The Greenbrier Collegiate will be played over 54 holes on the par-70 Old White TPC. It will be the first spring play on the famed C.B. Macdonald-designed, 7,287-yard layout that is the summer site of the PGA Tour's $6.3 million Greenbrier Classic, which is scheduled through 2021.
The following week, the Falcons will participate at The Rutherford Intercollegiate on April 19-20, which will be hosted by Penn State University and held at the Penn State Golf Courses – Blue Course in University Park, Pa.
That will be the final tournament of the spring season before the 2014 MAC Championships, which will be held this season on May 1-3 at the Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel, Ind.
The Falcons are coming off a 2013 fall season in which BGSU posted three top-five team finishes and nine top-15 individual finishes over five fall tournaments.
BGSU took fourth-place overall as a team at both the John Piper Intercollegiate on Sept. 16-17 and at the Quail Valley Collegiate Invitational on Oct. 28-29, while also registered a fifth-place team showing at the Cabo del Sol Intercollegiate on Oct. 6-8.
