Roth, a native of Cleveland, Ohio, scored a pair of goals in the Falcons' 2-1 overtime win over Wright State last Tuesday (Nov. 4), and helped BGSU pick up another 2-1 win, this time in regulation, as the Brown and Orange went on the road to top Northern Illinois on Saturday evening (Nov. 8). The latter win clinched a MAC Tournament berth for the Falcons.
In the WSU match, Roth knocked home a penalty kick late in the first half, then scored from the spot again in overtime, for his second 'Golden Goal' of the season. The two-goal game was the first of his collegiate career.
Roth, a defender, leads the Falcons with eight assists this season, and ranks third on the team with 14 points. He has been directly involved in the scoring of 11 BG goals this fall, while helping the Falcon defense hold opponents to just 16 goals in 19 matches.
Roth has started all 19 matches for the Falcons this year, and has played 1,721 of the team's 1,791 minutes this season to date.
The Falcons are 13-5-1 overall, and BGSU finished MAC play with a 2-2-1 record, good for a tie for third place in the conference standings. BG, the third seed for the MAC Tournament, will face second-seeded West Virginia University on Friday afternoon (Nov. 14). Kickoff is set for 4:00 p.m. at FirstEnergy Stadium - Cub Cadet Field in Akron, Ohio.
