Narro Advances to U.S. Open Sectional Tournament

Perrysburg, Ohio – Bowling Green State University's Jose Narro finished in a tie for first-place overall at the 2014 U.S. Open Local Qualifier in Perrysburg, Ohio on Tuesday to move on the sectional tournament, one step tournament closer to qualify for the U.S. Open.
Narro, who finished off his freshman season at Bowling Green this May, overcame suspended play midafternoon due to storms, as well as sustained winds of up to 40 mph and gusts to 49 mph throughout the day to finish in a three-way tie for first-place overall at the Belmont County Club in Perrysburg.
The Tampico, Mexico native carded a round of 72, even par, which included four birdies on the day.
"I am so happy for Jose. After not posting his best performance at the MAC Championships, he came back and worked really hard on his putting and short game," commented BGSU head coach Kevin Farrell. "I am so proud that it paid off for him."
A total of 76 players competed in the one-day qualifier hosted by the Toledo District Golf Association.
Narro makes it two Falcons that have moved on to the sectional events, as former BGSU golfer Drew Preston carded a low round 69 to win the U.S. Open Local Qualifier event at the Muskegon Country Club in Muskegon, Michigan on Monday, May 12th.
This year there are 12 sectional sites – 10 in the U.S., one in England and one in Japan. The international qualifiers will take place on May 26, while the U.S. qualifiers are slated for June 2.
Like local qualifying, most of the sectional qualifying rounds in the U.S. are conducted by state and regional golf associations on behalf of the United States Golf Association (USGA). Therefore, both Narro and Preston will more than likely play their sectional event at either the Brookside Golf & Country Club/Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio or at the Springfield Country Club in Springfield, Ohio.
