Searle, Stratton Taking Falcon Softball International During The Summer
July 10, 2014 | Softball
Bowling Green, Ohio - Bowling Green State University softball players Aspen Searle and Erika Stratton are taking part in unique opportunities to compete internationally over the summer.
Searle, a sophomore-to-be who hails from Brantford, Ontario, advanced to the second round of tryouts for the Canadian Senior Women's National Team. Although she did not make the national team that will represent Canada at the ISF Senior Women's World Championships, she was one of the final 47 to compete for a spot on the team. The opportunity provided Searle with a chance to work next to many of the best players in Canada at tryouts held in Cloverdale, British Columbia.
Stratton, who completed her eligibility in the spring and graduated from Bowling Green, is playing professionally over the summer for DSS, a team that competes in the top league in the Netherlands called Softbal Hoofdklasse. DSS Baseball and Softball is a Family Association that has 31 teams active in the organization -- 10 in softball and 21 in baseball. It is one of the largest clubs in the Netherlands. She will be in the Netherlands for much of the summer through the end of October.
Searle and Stratton were both key members of the 2014 BGSU softball team. Searle started all 52 games as a freshman and was third on the team with a .300 batting average. Stratton started 50 games, hit. 279 and was third on the squad with six home runs. She was one of only two seniors on a team that went 23-28-1 and 9-11 in Mid-American Conference play.
