July 18, 2014 | Men's Golf
Columbus, Ohio – Incoming freshman Cameron Michalak posted a 2-up win in match play at the finals of the 2014 Columbus District Golf Association Junior Championship on Friday to claim the championship trophy at the Scioto Country Club in Columbus, Ohio.
"I'm really happy for Cameron because it's never easy to win a match play event as the number one seed, but it just shows how competitive he is," quoted BGSU head men's golf coach Kevin Farrell. "He will have a great chance to get in the lineup and make an immediate impact for us this fall."
Michalak held on for a 7 and 6 win in the quarterfinals over Nick DiCello on Wednesday, July 16th, to move into the semifinals on Thursday, July 17th, where he edged Justin Wick 1-up over the 18 holes of play.
The future Falcon then capped off the tournament with a 2-up victory in the championship round over Trent Tipton on Friday to cap the championship tournament win.
