Atlanta, Ga. – Bowling Green State University men's golfer Jose Narro made a strong debut on day one of the 2014 U.S. Amateur Championship on Monday, Aug. 11, as the rising sophomore carded a round of 73, +1, at the par-72 Riverside Course at the Atlanta Athletic Club in Johns Creek, Ga.
"Jose started off struggling with the putter, but after a +3 for the first nine holes, he composed himself and played absolutely phenomenal on the second nine holes," commented head coach Kevin Farrell who walked the course with Narro on day one. "He beat a lot of big names today!"
Narro opened up the first round of play on the 10th tee, as he carded six pars and three bogeys to finish his first nine holes and the back nine with a 39, +3.
The Falcon golfer bounced back on the front nine with back-to-back birdies on holes 1 & 2, then followed with three pars and a birdie over the next four holes to move back to even par through 14 holes of play. The Tampico, Mexico native finished out his round and the front nine with three pars and a bogey to card a 34, -2 under par, on the front nine and a first round 18-hole score of 73, +1.
Narro will enter day two of play on Tuesday tied with 35 other golfers at 70th-place overall at +1 for the event.
