Madison, Wisconsin – The Bowling Green State University men's golf team carded a team score of 302, +14, the Falcons lowest team score for the three-round event, over the final round of play on a cold and windy Tuesday to finish in a tie for ninth-place overall at the 2014 Badger Invitational hosted by the University of Wisconsin at the par 72, 7,259-yards University Ridge Golf Course in Madison, Wisconsin.
The Falcons turned in rounds of 305, 309 and 302 to finish in a tie for ninth-place overall with a combine team score of 916, +52. BGSU finished in a tie for ninth with Illinois State (916, +52) and ahead of Rutgers (919, +55), Drake (923, +59) and Bradley (925, +61) in the 13-team field.
"We played pretty good considering the cold and windy weather conditions today," commented head coach Kevin Farrell. "Jose (Narro) and Brett (Rinker) struggled to make putts all day long, but Ryan (Triller), Holden (Pahr) and Eli (Stacy) all shot lower today than they did yesterday. Overall we finished the tournament on a high note."
Sophomore Jose Narro shot a third round 76, +4, over the final round of play, as he posted a birdie on hole-15 and was one over on the front nine on the day. Narro turned in rounds of 77, 71 and 76 to finish in a tie for 21st overall with a 54-hole score of 224, +8.
Carding the low round of the day for the Falcons was once again senior Ryan Triller with an 18-hole score of 74, +2. He carded two birdies on the day, one on both the front and back nine, and shot a 36 even par on the front nine on Tuesday. Combined with his first two round scores of 73 and 78, Triller ended the tournament in a tie for 28th-place overall with a combined three-round score of 225, +9.
Both Brett Rinker and Holden Pahr each turned in a final round of 76, +4, as Rinker recorded nine straight pars on the back nine, while Pahr tallied three birdies on the day. Rinker finished the three-day event with a 54-hole score of 230, +14, and in a tie for 46th overall. Pahr totaled a 54-hole score of 237, +21, to place in a tie for 64th-place.
Rounding out the lineup with his best round of the tournament was sophomore Eli Stacy. Stacy posted rounds of 86, 84 and 79 to finish in 75th-place with a three-day combined score of 249, +33.
Sam Houston State held on to edge Iowa State for the team win, as the Bearkats finished with a team-low tournament score of 871, +7, one stroke in front of Iowa State's 872, +8. USC Upstate finished in third-place overall with a team score of 880, +16.
