Paul Wayne To Be Inducted Into OHSBCA Hall Of Fame

Bowling Green, Ohio – Bowling Green State University alumnus Paul Wayne will be inducted into the Ohio High School Basketball Coaches Association Hall of Fame on April 18, 2015. Wayne is a former BGSU men's soccer and lacrosse player under legendary coach Mickey Cochrane.
Wayne spent 36 years as the boys basketball coach at Holgate High School with a career mark of 496-336, including a 2004 state championship. He was also the athletics director for 27 years and held a variety of other positions, including junior high football coach and varsity volleyball coach. Holgate won seven conference titles, 22 sectional championship and 13 district championships.
Among his many coaching honors, he was a seven-time District 7 Coach of the Year and the 2001 Ohio Coach of the Year. He coached in numerous all-star games, including the North-South All-Star game, the Ohio-Indiana All-Star game and the Ohio-Kentucky All-Star game.
Wayne earned varsity letters at BGSU in men's soccer under Cochrane in 1971, 1972 and 1973. As a defender, he guided the Falcons to a 21-8-4 mark during those three seasons, including two appearances in the NCAA Championships. During his senior season in 1973, the team went 9-2-0 overall, allowing just seven goals in 10 regular season contests.
Wayne was a four-year varsity letter winner in lacrosse and captained an undefeated team as a senior midfielder, earning team MVP honors. He earned his bachelor's degree in education from BGSU in 1974 and later earned his master's degree in administration and supervision from BGSU.
