Buenos Aires, Argentina – BGSU's Jose Narro carded a final round of 71, -1 under par, on Sunday to wrap up his play at the inaugural Latin America Amateur Championship held at the Pilar Golf Club in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
With his final round of 71, -1 under par, Narro finished the four-day event in a four-way tie for 27th-place overall. He posted rounds of 69, 78, 75 and 71 for a combined 72-hole score of 293, +5, just one stroke out of placing in the top-25 on the individual leaderboard.
"It was a great experience to play in the inaugural Latin America Amateur Championship even though it wasn't one of my best tournaments," commented Narro. "I struggled in some aspects of my game, but fought until the last hole. Now I'm ready to start the season and work on my game."
On a rainy Sunday which saw play halted for a four hour weather delay, Narro tallied three birdies and 13 pars on his way to a 35,-1 under par, on the front nine and a 36, even par, on the back nine.
"This was a once in a lifetime experience for Jose. To represent not only BGSU men's golf, but to play for his country of Mexico is an experience I know that he will never forget," stated BGSU head coach Kevin Farrell. "He hit the ball well all tournament long, but struggled at times with his putter. I know that without a doubt, Jose will grow from this experience and continue to work on his game. He, as am I and the rest of the team are all looking forward to starting our spring season this February."
Matias Dominguez of Chile won the inaugural Latin Amateur Championship event, posting rounds of 72, 65, 69 and 71 to win by one stroke with a 72-hole score of 277, -11 under par.
In January 2014, the Masters Tournament, The R&A and the United States Golf Association (USGA) announced the formation of the Latin America Amateur Championship (LAAC), a new amateur golf competition aimed at stimulating growth and inspiring even greater interest in the game throughout South America, Central America, Mexico and the Caribbean.
