Basalyga, Pleger Named Pizza Hut Athletes Of The Week
April 06, 2015 | Baseball, General, Women's Track and Field
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Pizza Hut Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are baseball player Greg Basalyga and track & field athlete Brooke Pleger.

Male Athlete of the Week
Greg Basalyga, a sophomore from Pickerington, Ohio, hit three home runs and drove in 11 runs as BGSU Baseball went 3-1 on the week and climbed back into MAC Tournament contention. Basalyga hit .500 with a .563 on-base percentage and 1.214 slugging percentage on the week, totaling 17 bases. Against Miami Sunday, he went 4-for-5 with a homer, double, five RBI and two runs scored. Basalyga hit three first inning home runs and drove in seven of his runs in the opening frame of games.
Female Athlete of the Week
Brooke Pleger, a senior from Saline, Mich., won the hammer throw against arch rival Toledo with a nation's best toss of 222-feet-4.5 as BGSU Track & Field defeated the Rockets 103-96. Four of Pleger's six throws at the meet were longer than any other hammer thrower in the country this year and her worst throw of the night would have placed her third in the nation. It marks the first time in her career that she has been ranked No. 1 in the country in the event, but she has placed in the top seven at the National Championships each of the past two years.
