Smith, Velasquez Named Pizza Hut Athletes Of The Week

Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Pizza Hut Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are baseball player Matt Smith and women's track and field athlete Kayla Velasquez.
Male Athlete of the Week
Matt Smith, a junior from Johnstown, Ohio, led BGSU with six hits over the weekend at Kent State, including his first career home run in Friday's game. On Saturday, he went 2-for-4 and added a 3-for-4 effort with two RBI on Sunday. The Falcons' left fielder now has six three-hit games this season to lead the Orange and Brown.
Female Athlete of the Week
Kayla Velasquez, a redshirt sophomore from Blacklick, Ohio, won the hammer throw at the Toledo Invitational by tossing a personal best 182-feet-8. It was eight inches further than her previous career best, which she launched just a week ago. Velasquez is currently ranked No. 8 in the conference in the hammer throw and is one of three Falcons ranked at least that high in the event.
