Cooper Records Career Low Round; Falcons Finish Sixth at 2015 MAC Championships

Chardon, Ohio – Senior Joe Cooper ended his BGSU career with a career-low round 68 on Sunday, as both he and Jose Narro posted top-15 place finishes at the 2015 Mid-American Conference Men's Golf Championships hosted by Akron at The Mayfield Sand Ridge Club – Sand Ridge Campus from May 1-3 in Chardon, Ohio. The Falcons as a team finished in sixth-place overall.
Bowling Green charted rounds of 291, 311, 292 and 294 to finish in sixth-place overall with a 72-hole team score of 1188, +36. The Falcons finished ahead of Ball State (1189, +37), Ohio (1194, +42) and Akron (1201, +49) in the nine team field.
"Joe played great today and it was a great ending to his career with a career-low round 68," commented head coach Kevin Farrell. "Jose had a very good tournament, playing well all three days this weekend. As a team, the sixth-place finish is disappointing because we had higher expectations for ourselves."
Narro finished up his weekend of play with a final round 75, +3, on Sunday, which consisted of two birdies and 12 pars. The sophomore finished with rounds of 74, 73, 69 and 75 overall to place in a tie for 10th-place overall with a 72-hole score of 291, +3. Overall Narro posted 12 birdies and a team-best 47 pars over the four rounds of play.
Cooper capped of his BGSU career with a career-low round 68, -4 under par, on the final day of the 2015 MAC Championships. The lefty carded six birdies and 10 pars on Sunday giving him a tournament total of 14 birdies and 41 pars overall. The senior finished in 13th-place with rounds of 74, 77, 73 and 68 for a 72-hole score of 292, +4.
Sophomore Brett Rinker finished his MAC tournament with a final round of 77, +5, on Sunday, which included 13 pars and five bogeys. With rounds of 73, 82, 72, and 77, the Pennsylvania native finished in a tie for 32nd-place overall with his 72-hole score of 304, +16. Rinker ended the conference championship event with 10 birdies and 37 pars.
Like Cooper, Cameron Michalak turned in his lowest round of the tournament with a final round 74, +2. The freshman, who recorded four birdies and nine pars over his final 18 holes on Sunday, completed his first MAC Championships with rounds of 79, 79, 78 and 74 to finish in a tie for 36th-place overall with a 72-hole score of 310, +22. He totaled 11 birdies and 34 pars over the three days of play.
Rounding out the Falcons lineup was senior Ryan Triller with a final round 85, +13, in his final round as a Falcon. Triller recorded rounds of 70, 83, 79 and 85 to finish in a tie for 42nd-place overall with a 72-hole score of 317, +29. The Maryland native finished his four rounds of play with a total of 10 birdies and 31 pars on the weekend.
Miami led from day one to capture the 2015 MAC team championship with a 72-hole team score of 1160, +8, finishing eight strokes ahead of Toledo who finished in second-place with a team score of 1168, +16.
Eastern Michigan (1174, +22) took third-place, while Northern Illinois (1179, +27) and Kent State (1187, +35) rounded out the top-five.
Ball State's Johnny Watts picked up the first-place individual medalist honors with a tournament low 72-hole score of 287, -1 under par. Ian Holt of Kent State and Scott Cahill of Miami both finished in a tie for second-place overall with matching scores of 288, even par.
The Falcons' 72-hole team score of 1188 is the lowest 72-hole score for a BGSU team at the MAC Men's Golf Championships since posting a team score of 1173 back in 2006-07. Last year, the Falcons also finished in sixth-place overall with a 72-hole team score of 1194.
