Men's Soccer Enjoys Stellar Spring Season

BGSU goes 5-1-2, with the lone loss coming to a professional club
The Bowling Green State University men's soccer team has concluded one of the most successful spring seasons in recent memory. Head coach Eric Nichols and the Falcons posted a 5-1-2 record during the spring, with the lone loss coming against a professional club.
"This was one of the more challenging spring seasons we have had," said Nichols. "The intensity and concentration in the training sessions was very good and the level competition in the games was very high."
The Falcons opened the spring campaign with a pair of road contests. BGSU earned a 1-1 draw at Cincinnati (March 29), then posted a 1-0 win against Oakland (April 3). The latter match was the first of three consecutive shutouts for the Brown and Orange, who returned home and picked up wins over both Dayton and Tiffin on April 11. In a pair of 70-minute matches, the Falcons topped the Flyers by a 1-0 score before downing the Dragons, 3-0, at Cochrane Stadium.
The next weekend, Falcons battled Falcons, as the current team matched up with the program's alums, and the Alumni Match ended in a 1-1 draw (April 17). BG's lone loss of the spring came two days later, as the Orange and Brown had an inspired performance, but suffered a 4-0 setback to Columbus Crew SC (April 19).
BG returned home and closed the spring slate with a pair of two-goal wins at Cochrane, against Vaughan SC and Notre Dame College. The Falcons bested Vaughan SC, a club program from Ontario, by a 3-1 result (April 22), then posted a 2-0 victory over NDC three days later (April 25).
In all, the Falcons outscored the opposition by a 12-7 margin. Against non-professional sides, BGSU went 5-0-2 and outscored opponents, 12-3.
"The best thing about this spring is that we continued to get better each week," said Nichols. "All in all, it was a productive spring season, which is essential as our sights are set high for the fall."
That fall season will begin on the last weekend in August, when the Falcons host both SIUE and Western Illinois at Cochrane Stadium. The complete 2015 schedule will be announced later this week.
