Bowling Green, Ohio – The Bowling Green State University men's golf team will host both the Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational and the 2016 Mid-American Conference Men's Golf Championship, it was announced today by men's golf head coach Kevin Farrell.
"It will be another tough schedule for our guys in 2015-16. In playing a challenging schedule last year, I felt it made us better competitors and allowed us to compete at the highest level throughout the season and I wanted to do that again this year," commented Coach Farrell. "I wanted our guys to be able to play against elite competition, but also be able to see where we match up against other schools across the nation. To host two events this year will be a great experience for our team and our program, as both will take place at courses that are played on the PGA and LPGA tours."
The Falcons will tee-off the 2015 fall season for the fourth straight year at the Joe Feaganes Marshall Invitational hosted by Marshall University on Sept. 14-15 at the Guyan Golf & Country Club in Huntington, West Virginia. Overall this will be the sixth straight season in which the Falcons have competed at the Marshall Invitational, having posted a team-best seventh-place finish last season.
Junior Jose Narro will look to defend his individual championship at the Marshall event, as he took medalist honors with a 54-hole score of 206, -7 under par, at the 2014 tournament.
BGSU will then head west to participate in the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate on Sept. 25-26. The two-day tournament is hosted by the University of New Mexico and will be held at the UNM Championship Golf Course in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The Falcons will then return to home to Ohio for the sixth annual Cleveland State Invitational hosted by the Vikings at the Barrington Golf Club in Aurora, Ohio on Oct. 5-6, before road tripping it back to the state of West Virginia for the Mountaineer Intercollegiate hosted by West Virginia University at the Pete Dye Golf Club on Oct. 19-20 in Bridgeport, West Virginia.
Bowling Green will wrap up the month of October at the Old Dominion/Kilmarlic Collegiate Invitational hosted by Old Dominion University at the Kilmarlic Golf Club in the Outer Banks, North Carolina on Oct. 25-27. The Falcons finished in 10th-place overall out of the 18-team field at the event back in the fall of 2013.
For the second straight season, the Falcons' will fly to Hawai'i to conclude the fall season at the Ka'anapali Collegiate Classic in Lahaina, Maui, Hawai'i on Nov. 6-8. Hosted by the University of Hawai'i at the Ka'anapali Golf Club Resort, the Falcons finished in sixth-place overall out of the 13-team field at the 2014 event last year.
After a four month break over the winter months, the Falcons will return to the links for the 2016 spring season on Mar. 7-8 at the Colleton River Collegiate hosted by Michigan State University at the Colleton River Plantation Club in Bluffton, South Carolina.
The challenging spring season will continue with a return to the Lone Star Invitational for the second straight year on Mar. 21-22 at the Briggs Ranch Golf Club in San Antonio, Texas. Hosted by the University of Texas at San Antonio (UTSA) once again, the Falcons will look to improve on their ninth-place team finish in last year's event which included three top-40 nationally ranked teams in the 16-team field.
Three weeks later on Apr. 9-10, the Falcons will return to competition in Columbus, Ohio at the Robert Kepler Invitational held at the Scarlet Course at the Ohio State University. It will be BGSU's first time competing in the Buckeyes' event since posting an eighth-place finish out of 15-teams in 2012.
On Apr. 11-12, the BGSU men's golf program, along with Marshall, will host the third annual Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational at the Old White TPC Golf Course at The Greenbrier in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia. Having grown from just seven teams at the inaugural event in 2013 to 13 teams in last year's event in 2014, this year's tournament will include a full field of 14 or 15 teams at the two-day, 54-hole event.
BGSU posted a second-place team finish in the first-ever Greenbrier Collegiate Invitational in 2013 and finished in ninth-place overall at the rain-shortened event in 2014.
"I am so excited to host the Greenbrier Collegiate Intercollegiate for a third time this year," continued Farrell. "It continues to grow each year and has become a tournament where more and more elite and established collegiate golf programs want to come in play in. It is a great place to play, and a great experience for not only our team and the golfers from the other schools, but also for our alumni and supporters that participate in the events all weekend long."
The Falcons will then play host to the 2016 MAC Men's Golf Championship on Apr. 29-May 1 at the Highland Meadows Golf Course in Toledo, Ohio.
"This season we will be hosting the MAC Championship Tournament at the Highland Meadows Golf Course in Toledo, Ohio. We are looking forward to putting on a great event for the student-athletes as this is a special event for all of the MAC schools and their men's golf programs. We want to make this tournament a memorable one for the student-athletes as it is their championship event."
