European Boys' Team Championship - Scoring
Pickala Golf, Finland – Bowling Green State University incoming freshman golfer Pablo Heredia continued his strong play for his Spanish Boys National Team in match play on Thursday, July 9, at the European Boys' Team Championship in Pickala Golf, Finland.
Playing in Flight B, Spain fell to Wales 3-2 in the team score with Heredia falling to Tim Harry of Wales, who will tee-off for the UAB Blazers come fall 2015, on the 20th hole.
However, Heredia didn't go down without a fight in the match play event, as he entered the final four holes of play down three to Harry only to erase the three-hole deficit and force the bout to go extra holes. After both Heredia and Harry birdied their 19th hole of the day, Heredia just missed a 30-foot putt on the 20th hole that sat on the lip of the cup to open the door for Harry who used a great tee-shot on the 445-yard hole to escape with the win.
"Pablo played an exciting match. He showed his mental toughness in battling back from down three holes late to force the match into extra holes," commented BGSU head coach Kevin Farrell, who is in Finland watching the tournament. "He kept calm and played his game down the stretch. Once again I am excited for what Pablo will bring to our team come this fall."
Heredia and Spain will take on Switzerland in the second round of match play at the European Boys' Team Championship on Friday, July 10.
