Flynn, a native of Naperville, Ill. (Central H.S.), earns the CSN honor after a tremendous start to the 2015 campaign. After recording one of the finest seasons in school history in 2014, the Hermann Trophy Watch List member picked up right where he left off as the '15 season began.
Flynn totaled four goals and nine points as the Falcons opened the 2015 season with a pair of wins over the weekend. He had a goal and an assist in Friday night's (Aug. 28) season-opening 3-1 win over SIUE, an NCAA Tournament team a year ago. In that match, Flynn scored midway through the first half to give the Falcons a 2-0 lead. Then, he immediately stole the ball deep in the SIUE end and picked up an assist on BG's next goal, with the two goals coming just 17 seconds apart.
On Sunday (Aug. 30), Flynn had a hat trick, scoring three of BG's four goals in a 4-1 win over Western Illinois. He opened the scoring less than three minutes into the match. Then, with BGSU leading 2-1 early in the second half, Flynn notched his second goal of the day to give the Falcons a two-goal lead. And, with 11 minutes to go, he scored from a seemingly impossible angle, near the end line to the left of the goal, to give BG a three-goal advantage and seal the win.
Flynn, in his second season at BGSU, now has totals of 18 goals and 41 points in just 23 games. Sunday's hat trick was the second of his BG career.
Among his many accolades in 2014, Flynn was named to the College Soccer News Team of the Week on Sept. 22, after scoring three goals, including both game winners, as the Falcons topped Michigan and Eastern Illinois.
Flynn and the Falcons continue a season-long four-game homestand with a pair of matches at Cochrane Stadium this week. BGSU will host Drexel on Thursday evening (Sept. 3), then will meet Cleveland State on Sunday night (Sept. 6). Both matches begin at 7:00 p.m., and admission is free.
