Heuton, Walny Named Vito's Athletes Of The Week
September 07, 2015 | General, Men's Soccer, Women's Cross Country
Each week, the Bowling Green State University Athletic Department names the Vito's Athletes of the Week, as selected by the athletic communications department based on their athletic performances from the previous week. This week's winners are men's soccer player Ryan Heuton and women's cross country runner Rachel Walny.
Male Athlete of the Week
Ryan Heuton, a redshirt junior from Chico, Calif., earned two shutouts as BGSU men's soccer improved to 4-0 on the season. He had two saves against both Drexel and Cleveland State as the Falcons won 1-0 and 3-0. In the Cleveland State game, he made a diving save with under 30 seconds to go to preserve his sixth career shutout. He now has a MAC-best goals against average of 0.50 on the year.
Female Athlete of the Week
Rachel Walny, a redshirt freshman from Clinton Township, Mich., won the Mel Brodt Collegiate Open Friday night in her first career race representing Bowling Green. Her time of 17:20.1 was 17 seconds faster than any other competitor at the meet and was 37 seconds faster than any BGSU runner ran the 5,000-meter distance a year ago. She dominated a field that included five of the top 14 runners at the MAC Championships a year ago.
