BGSU’s Narro to Tee-Off at the 2016 LAAC

Casa De Campo, Dominican Republic – Bowling Green State University junior golfer Jose Narro will tee-off at the 2016 Latin America Amateur Championship in a feature pairing on Thursday, Jan. 14, in the four-day event held at the Teeth of the Dog Golf Course at Casa de Campoin Casa De Campo, Dominican Republic from Jan. 14-17.
The 72-hole stroke play event, includes a cut at the leading 50 players after 36 holes of play.
Narro is set to tee-off the first round of play on Thursday at 12:07 p.m. (11:07 p.m. EST) in the feature group with Herik Machado of Brazil and Nicolas Echavarria of Colombia.
At the inaugural Latin America Amateur Championship event last year, Narro finished the four-day event in a four-way tie for 27th-place overall. He posted rounds of 69, 78, 75 and 71 for a combined 72-hole score of 293, +5, just one stroke out of placing in the top-25 on the individual leaderboard.
Machado finished in 44th-place at the 2015 Latin America Amateur Championship and 38th overall at the South American Amateur Championship a year ago, while Echavarria, a senior golfer at the University of Arkansas, finished 19th overall at last year's LAAC event and tallied six top-25 finishes over 2015 while playing for the Razorbacks.
The 2016 champion will receive an invitation to compete in the Masters Tournament, an exemption into The Amateur Championship, conducted by the R&A, and an exemption into the U.S. Amateur Championship and any other USGA amateur championship for which he is eligible.
The champion and the runner-up will also receive an exemption into the Open Qualifying Series with an opportunity to earn a place in The Open Championship 2016 at Royal Troon, as well as an exemption into the final stage qualifying for the U.S. Open with an opportunity to earn a place in the 2016 U.S. Open at Oakmont Country Club.
The first two rounds of play on Thursday, Jan. 14, and Friday, Jan. 15, will be televised live from 3-5 p.m. AST (2-4 p.m. EST) on ESPN2.
