Junior infielder is named to second team by web site
Bowling Green State University softball standout Aspen Searle has been named to the Preseason All-Mid-American Conference Team by College Sports Madness. Searle was named to the preseason all-conference second team by the web site on Tuesday night (Jan. 19).
Searle, a native of Brantford, Ontario (Bishop Tonnos), has started all 100 of BGSU's games during her first two seasons on campus, and owns a career batting average of .322. She made 27 starts at shortstop and 21 at second base last season, and finished second on the Falcons with a .344 batting average.
Searle led the Falcons in a veritable plethora of categories a year ago, including at-bats, hits, home runs, runs scored, runs batted in, total bases, on-base percentage and slugging pct. Her total of 22 extra-base hits was 10 higher than any other Falcon.
Last spring, Searle led BGSU in multiple-hit games (16) and multi-RBI games (six - tied for team lead), and she hit a team-leading .365 in MAC games. A two-time MAC Player-of-the-Week honoree in 2015, Searle's team-high total of nine homers included a walk-off blast in extra innings vs. Detroit. She was named to the Academic All-MAC Team, and also was named a MAC Distinguished Scholar Athlete in the first year of that award's existence.
In her first season with the Falcons, Searle was named to the MAC's All-Freshman Team after starting all 52 games and batting an even .300. Her first collegiate hit was a homer against Cleveland State, and she hit a BG-best .397 over the last 17 games of the season.
Searle and the Falcons open the 2016 season on Feb. 13, taking part in the CSU Dome Invitational in Cleveland, Ohio. The home portion of the schedule begins on March 23, when IPFW comes to town, and the MAC schedule commences two days later when the Falcons face Northern Illinois at Meserve Field.
