October 10, 2016 | Football
Cleveland, Ohio – Bowling Green State University redshirt junior Joseph Davidson has been named the Mid-American Conference East Division Special Teams Player of the Week. Davidson averaged 59.7 yards per punt Saturday at Ohio and had a 79-yard punt, the longest in the NCAA this year.
Davidson punted three times in the contest, beginning with a 45-yard kick in the first quarter that was fair caught at the 10-yard line. In the second quarter, his 55-yard punt was returned 11 yards but an illegal block in the back penalty on Ohio actually netted the Falcons 60 yards on the play.
Davidson's final punt came in the third quarter when he boomed the longest kick of the year in FBS football. From his own 11-yard line, he punted over the returner's head and the ball was downed at the Ohio 10 for 79 yards.
In total, Davidson's 59.7 yard per punt average is the best single-game average in the FBS football this year. He ranks fourth in the country with a 48.1 yard per punt average and is third in net punting average at 45.8. Two weeks ago, he was named the Ray Guy Award National Punter of the Week and he has four punts of 60 yards or more in the last three weeks.
