Falcons Turn in Solid First Rounds at the Azalea Invitational on Thursday

Charleston, S.C. – BGSU Falcons Jose Narro, Pablo Heredia Iglesias and Brett Rinker all turned in a solid first round of play at the 68th Azalea Invitational on Thursday at the Country Club of Charleston in Charleston, South Carolina.

Narro turned in the best score of the day among the three Falcon golfers, as the junior carded a first round 69, -2 under par, to put himself in a tie for ninth-place overall after day one of play. Narro, who is only three shots of the leader, birdied holes No. 5, 12 and 16, and totaled 14 pars over his 18-hole round.

"I played pretty good today. There was a little bit of wind out there, but I managed to stay controlled throughout the round," commented Narro. "What really helped me today is that I putted well. I will have the same game plan tomorrow - be patient and birdies will come."

Three strokes behind Narro is Heredia Iglesias with a score of 72, +1, on Thursday. Entering the second round of play in a tie for 30th overall on Friday, the freshman birdied holes No. 3 and No. 9 on the day. He finished the round with two birdies, 14 pars, one bogey and one double bogey.

Just one shot off of Heredia Iglesias is Rinker with a first round score of 73, +2, to place him in a tie for 41st overall. The junior had a much more up-and-down round than his fellow Falcons on Thursday, as he carded three birdies – on holes No. 3, 10 and 17 - but also shot three bogeys and one double bogey on the day. He also finished with 11 pars over his first 18 holes of play.

Narro will tee-off his second round of play tomorrow morning at 9:10 a.m., while Rinker will follow 10 minutes later with a 9:20 a.m. tee-time. Heredia Iglesias is slated to tee-off on Friday at 1:50 p.m.
