BG’s Narro Qualifies for the 58th Mexican Open

Aguascalientes, Mexico – At the 2016 PGA Tour Latinoamérica Open Qualifier for the 58 Abierto Mexicano de Golf (58th Mexican Open) on Monday, May 16, BGSU rising senior Jose Narro carded a round of 69, -2 under par, to place in a tie for fifth-place overall to qualify for the 58 Abierto Mexicano de Golf which will take place on May 19-22 in Aquascalientes, Mexico.

One of only two amateurs to qualify for the event, Narro recorded a 34 on the front nine and a 35 on the back nine en route to his 18-hole score of 69, - 2 under par.

"I didn't play my best, but I got off to a good start with birdies on holes No. 1 and No. 4. I then came into a cold stretch with all pars and a bogey on my ninth hole," stated Narro post round. "I knew that -1 under par was not enough to make it into the tournament, but I was missing off the tee and it was hard to get birdies that way. I kept making good saves and some good putts for par, and I sank a 35 foot birdie putt on my last hole to make it on the cut line. This means a lot to me to be a part of this tournament (Abierto Mexicano de Golf). I'm going to enjoy it and give 100 percent out there."

The 58th playing of the Abierto Mexicano de Golf was added to the first half of the PGA TOUR Latinoamérica 2016 schedule in February. Kaneda Golf, the Tour's partner in Mexico, and the Mexican Federation of Golf, have confirmed that their National Open Championship will be contested for the second consecutive year at the Club Campestre de Aguascalientes during the week of May 16-22 in Aquascalientes, Mexico.
